THE MASTER BEDROOM

Opposite the drawing room was originally Mr and Mrs Crawley's bedroom. The superb four poster double bed is made of mahogany. It was brought to Australia by the Whaites' an early pioneering family who eventually settled in the Mittagong area where it was acquired by Mr Reg Ryan was in a state of extreme decay having been left out in the weather for several years. Careful restoration of this piece has brought it back to something approaching its original beauty.

Opposite the door is a serpentine fronted chest of drawers with beautifully figured mahogany veneers to the drawer fronts c.1840.

Against the front wall, a matching washstand and dressing table in mahogany, c.1850 and a finely carved mahogany "prie-dieu" or prayer chair. A pair of blue Mary Gregory vases decorate the chest of drawers, along with a jewel chest of Brazilian rosewood inlaid with mother -of-pearl, with guilded Moroccan leather in the doors c.1830.

On the wash stand is a rare lilac pattern Wedgewood toilet, jug and basin set c.1890. From the balcony a fine view of the surrounding town and countryside may be seen, around to the right was a room originally used as a classroom where the young children were tutored, looking down you can view the knot garden .
