THE BREAKFAST ROOM
This room at the foot of the stairs is furnished, c.1840-60. On the mantelpiece is a three piece
Bronze and marble clock set, either side of the fireplace are a fine pair of mahogany bookcases
c.1840, the breakfast table and chairs are also mahogany c.1850, the sideboard is of Tasmanian
blackwood, c.1830, a fine example of early Australian cabinet making, also dumb waiter of
mahogany c.1870. On the walls hang several steel engravings and above the mantelpiece is a
gilt over-mantel mirror c.1870.
Above the stairwell are two steel engravings in birdseye maple frames titled "The Crimean"
and "Balaclava".
The walnut settee is the oldest piece in the homestead, c.1690. Note the bronze figure of Gabriel
the arc angel c. 1860 on the ebonised timber stand. The Bristol blue glass around the French
doors had to be replaced as vandals smashed the original. The glass was made in Belgium and
etched in Australia.
